You don’t have to brave the 5 freeway, kids screaming and covering you in goldfish cracker dust, to find something fun to do
with your kids this weekend. There are a ton of great activities happening right here in Santa Clarita that require almost no driving or crackers.
Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
Western Family Hoe-Down
Maybe it has gotten a little cooler, like in the 60’s, but it’s STILL SUMMER IN SANTA CLARITA! This weekend the summer feel is kept alive by the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA’s Western Family Hoe-Down.
It’s coming up on Friday, November 21st from 6:30-8:30pm. There will be dancing, crafts, and a campfire with s’mores and an old-fashion family fun vibe. Prices feel old-fashioned as well at only $7 per child. Click here for details.
So put down those…what are they called again…right, sweaters…and go!
Ugly Sweater Creations
Speaking of sweaters, the “Ugly Sweater” has become an oddly appealing holiday tradition and you may want to make sure you are on trend by making assuring your family has the least attractive sweaters on the block.
The Valencia Library is hosting the Create your own Ugly Sweater event on Saturday, November 22nd, at 1 pm. Bring your own sweater and they will provide the trim to make it unique.
If it’s ugly enough for Bill Cosby and Bridget Jones, it’s ugly enough for you.
Festival of Trees
This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Valencia Industrial Center is the final weekend of the festival and it is full of tree-tastic fun.
There are performances from all sorts of great entertainers, vocalists, and dance companies, plus pictures with Santa and more. The Kid’s Corner is open from 10-3 on Saturday and Noon-6p Sunday with free admission after 4pm.
There is also some fancy shmancyness happening with the Magic of the Lights Gala and Tree Auction on Saturday evening and a Hocus Pocus Magic Show on Friday the 21st. Details on tickets and schedule are here, ya know, if you’re shmancy.
Meet the Nutcracker Dancers
The crowd hushes as she goes for the Grand Jete… she smooths her tutu, takes her first step, and MAKES THE LEAP!!! AND THE CROWD GOES CRAZY!!
Have you or your kids ever dreamed of being a ballerina? Well now you can get a chance to get up close and personal with the dancers from the Santa Clarita Ballet’s upcoming production of The Nutcracker and take some pictures with the costumed performers.
It’s happening on Sunday, November 23rd at 2 pm at the Canyon Country Library, and is followed by the classic story being read aloud for all to enjoy. You can wear your tutu if you want, there will be no judgment at this party.
Happenin’s at Hart: Pom-Pom Critters Craft
Remember Weepuls? From elementary school? Those little furry balls with feet and googly eyes? Well now they have a shiny brand-new name “Pom-Pom Critters” and your kids can enjoy making them at Hart Park’s “Happenin’s at Hart” free craft event.
It’s Friday, November 21st from 3:30-4:30 at the Hart Park Picnic Area and you can bring your K-5th graders to participate in the free fun. Don’t remember those little fuzzy balls of joy? There were the BEST with all the colors and the trading and winning them in school fundraisers…sorry, I got carried away. Um…they were fun.
