“I’m dreaming of a White Christmas…” or a slushy, rainy one as the case may be. If you Santa Clarita parents are longing for a family activity with a “wintery” feel, try some of these fun snow and holiday themed events.
Here are my top 5 picks for fun family activities in Santa Clarita:
Valencia Marketplace Holiday Celebration
When you put a free family fun activity, music, crafts, and the potential to do some holiday shopping all together in one place, I’m THERE! You will be too this Saturday, December 6th from noon to 3 at the Valencia Marketplace’s Holiday Celebration.
Stop by the Amphitheater area for the celebration and say “Hi” to us at KHTS while checking out our live broadcast and Antique Fire Truck. Then have the little ones make crafts, listen to the rocking music, and take advantage of the fact that they are all “played” out to hit the stores!
Exhausted happy kids+ store discounts = the perfect afternoon. It’s Einstein’s theory of Shoppinkidtivity…
Hot Cocoa and a Movie
Nothing feels better on a cold and possibly rainy afternoon than Hot Cocoa and a Movie, so take advantage of the free family fun event being held at the Santa Clarita Activities Center and cuddle up! A showing of the movie “Frozen”, served with a side of cocoa to warm the chill, is being held on Saturday, December 6th at 1pm. Even though the festivities are free you do need to register at the Activities Center in advance.
And if you love the idea of an event but are a little over the movie itself, try this technique: Go, close your eyes, and picture the Frozen dialogue running over the movie Rocky instead. Gives it a fun – if slightly more aggressive – twist.
Take THAT, Snowman!
William S. Hart Birthday Celebration
Happy Birthday, William S. Hart! 150th birthday, that is.
This Saturday, December 6th, stop by the Hart Mansion at Hart Park between 11-4 to help celebrate what would have been the actor’s 150th birthday with free tours, party hat crafts, pin the tail on Fritz, and a treasure hunt to find buried gold. It is a family fun activity made for all ages to enjoy.
It’s a great chance to train them early to say things like: “150th Birthday? You don’t look a day over 145”.
Castaic Winter Magic Lighted Boat Parade
Imagine a stunning evening with your family, picnicking by the lake while you watch beautiful lighted boats float by. No no…don’t add the very real possibility of your kids fighting over who has more olives on their sandwich…go back to the happy place…
If you want to make that dream a reality, check out the Annual Castaic Lake Winter Magic event featuring a Lighted Boat Parade. It’s Saturday, December 6th from 2-8pm at Castaic Lake and it features food, snacks, Santa, and snow to play in (kids bring your sleds)! The boat parade starts at 5 pm, so make sure to allow time to enjoy this amazing family activity. Cost is just the park entry fee of $11.
You can make your relaxing family fun dream a reality…just make sure to pack extra olives.
It’s a bit of a challenge to find close, cheap, and simple ways to let your kids play in the snow. But the Santa Clarita Valley YMCA is giving you a great family activity to help you out – Snow Fest!
Saturday, December 6th, from 10-1 and you can enjoy crafts, games, hot chocolate, sledding, and TONS OF SNOW at this free event. It’s open to the entire community, so bring your family, friends and their kids, or your friend’s kids, and have a blast.
Just be prepared to explain to your children what the white cold stuff is, we are in So Cal, after all.
