The sun is shining, your kids are smiling, and the football season is FINALLY over. Do you even remember WHO those little people running around your home are? It’s time to get out of the house with those small strangers and reconnect with some family fun activities in Santa Clarita!
Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
National Kite Day
Well, if you aren’t sure exactly how to sell that one to your family, let the National Kite Day celebration at the Canyon Country Library guide you in the right direction. The free event is Sunday, February 8th, from 1:30-4:30pm. The activities include kite decorating, and a screening of Mary Poppins!
That movie has the best kite flying song ever-I triple dog dare you to see the film and NOT sing the song for several days after.
Be a Principal for a Day
Admit it, memories of your childhood school principal can be a knee-knocking combination of awe and fear. But did you ever dream of taking over the office and being the big boss for a day? Well, now’s your chance!
Friday, February 6th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Santa Clarita Activities Center business leaders, community members and parents are invited to spend the morning shadowing a local public school principal or district administrator for the Principal for a Day event. It’s part of the SCV Education Foundation and you need to register asap at this website or by calling 678-0429.
It’s a great way to check in on how our local schools are run, as well as living out your childhood dreams of ringing that bell in an authoritative way.
“The sun will come out, tomorrow…” Don’t even get me STARTED on how much I love the musical Annie! And I guarantee your kids will too, so make sure you catch the upcoming production of the best kids musical in town at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.
Annie, put on by the Escape Theatre, runs Friday – Saturday, February 6th through the 8th, at 7pm with weekend matinees at 2pm, and you can get your tickets here or at 661-299-5264.
Don’t say “Maybe”, just GO! If you miss it you will have a “Hard Knock Life”! Seriously, I could go on all day with song lyric puns…
Need a fun after school activity? Well you are in luck; the Newhall Aquarium is open and 100% kid friendly. It’s open Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30 pm and your kids can enjoy exploring the wonders of sea animals for only a $2 donation per person.
Get all of your info at this link or by calling 818 357-6567.
They have amazing fish, eels, and a stingray touch tank! Just be considerate and don’t take your kids out for sushi afterwards…
Heart Box Workshop
Is your kid so sweet that he or she comes home from school overflowing with Valentine’s cards? Well, there is a cool workshop coming up that can help your kid hang on to all that paper love.
Home Depot has a free workshop at their stores this Saturday, February 7th from 9:00am to 12:00pm for kids 5-12 years old. They are making a Heart Box that will hold all of those Valentines, and not only do they get the fun of making the craft, they also get to take it home and keep it! Make sure to register first at this website so they have enough supplies for you.
Isn’t that a better solution to the overflowing card issue then telling your child to be “less loveable”? I think yes.
