Santa Clarita parents, it may have been a rainy week, but the weekend is supposed to be clear and beautiful. So go hang out and have some family fun with your kids with the extra time you have, now that you don’t need to wash your car!
Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
SCV Summer Job Fair
Do you want your teenagers to stay at home all summer break, lounging around the house and playing video games while polishing off all of the food you just bought for them? OF COURSE NOT! So get those kids a summer job by sending them off to the SCV Summer Job Fair.
It’s Saturday, March 7th from 9am to 12 noon at the Santa Clarita Activities Center. You can call 286-4017 or click here for the details for the details.
Gently remind your teens to dress for success and bring copies of their resumes. Avoid the urge to yell “Go get a job” at them repeatedly.
Whale Party
Don’t you just LOVE Moby Dick? Oh, what, haven’t read it? Me neither. So we will have to get our whale knowledge some other way. Good thing for you and your kids, the Canyon Country Library is throwing a Whale Party!
The free Whale Party for school age and pre-kindergarten age children will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Canyon Country Library. Kids can make whale crafts and art projects, and you can sneak off and ask the librarian the plot of Moby Dick.
Then you can pretend you know all about whales AND literature! It’s a two-fer!
Charity Chili Cook-Off Sign Ups
Chili cooking isn’t a process you can rush, so I’m giving you plenty of time by letting you know that the The Third Annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-Off is coming up not this weekend but on Friday March 20th.
The event, held at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, starts at 5:30pm and will feature approximately 40 chili cookers. Tickets are only $10 so you will want to bring your antacids and get ready! Want to share your favorite recipe? Visit scvcharitychilicookoff.com and get all of the info.
So take you time cooking the chili and getting ready, but sign ups are NOW. So RUSH, but don’t rush…
Storytime at West Creek Park
When you are home with little ones, the days can get a little…well…long. So here’s a fun morning activity for you and your not-quite-in-school-yet kids, a free storytime at West Creek Park.
It’s on Friday, March 6th at 10am and you can bring all your kids favorite toys for a group playdate. Plus, the Book Mobile will be there from 10-12 noon and 1-4pm for some extra reading inspiration.
Get out of the house, fellow parents, and see the fresh air.
ArtSLAM and JAM Session
Get ready to start Dancin’ in the Streets, because the ArtSLAM and JAM Session is back on Thursday nights and you won’t want to miss them!
This Thursday the theme is Bollywood with a performance by the Blue13 Dance Company. Just swing by Main Street in Old Town Newhall between 6 and 10 pm to enjoy the free festivities with your family. For details visit their website.
You could just stay home and dance in your living room, but it won’t be nearly as fun. Nor will there be a great song sung by Bowie and Jagger to accompany you – “Dancing on the Couch” is just not as catchy.
