Memorial Day weekend is finally here and that means an extra day of play (and sleep.) As we honor our military, we can also spend time together as a family doing something really fun in right here in Santa Clarita.
Here are my top 5 picks for family fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
Memorial Day Celebration
There is a family friendly ceremony that celebrates, honors, and remembers those who served at the Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary in Newhall starting at 10 am on Memorial Day.
Not only will it have the more somber festivities, but will also have the Condor Squadron flying overhead and over 500 area Boy and Girl Scouts.
Make the most of your weekend and extra day off to do something really special together. You won’t regret it.
It’s that time again, SUMMER! You know your kids have been begging you to take them to Hurricane Harbor, and you have been explaining the whole “closed for winter” concept while they tune out and turn on the tv.
Now you can say “Let’s Go” because it’s opening up for the season this weekend, May 23 – 25th and running weekends only until June 5th when it opens for the full hot splashy summer.
Visit their website to get info on times and tickets, and get ready to enjoy a cool time for the whole family.

Kids Gardening Workshop
The Community Gardens of Santa Clarita at Central Park has fun educational gardening classes once a month, and this one falls on Saturday, May 23rd from 9 -10:30 am. It’s made for 5-8 year olds and you can visit their website for details.
Encourage them to garden on their own. They have fun, and your tomato plants stay intact.

Story Time at West Creek Park
Are you happy and perky by Friday each week? Yeah, right. You could use an easy but entertaining event close to home. Bonus points if it involves reading. So take them to Story Time at West Creek Park.
The BookMobile is at the park on Fridays from 10 am to noon and again from 1 to 4 pm, so it’s a fantastic way to get out and see friends in a simple and fun environment. Call 775-0823 if you have questions.
Keep it simple and battle the Friday fatigue. Because the weekend is coming, people, and you are going to need to be energetic for that.
Sign Up for Great American Campout
Are you in love with the idea of camping, but not in love with the long drive, challenging packing, and potential for extended kid whining? Why not keep is close and simple at the Great American Campout in Central Park?
It’s coming up on Saturday & Sunday June 27 & 28, and even though that isn’t THIS weekend’s event, reservations get snapped up pretty quickly and I want to make sure you get the chance to participate if you want to. Up to 8 people are allowed per site to enjoy all of the stargazing, games, campfires and S’mores with your friends and family.
Call 250-3706 for details on registration.
