Does your typical weekend go like this?
You: “Let’s go out and do something fun together!”
Kids: “There’s nothing to do around here, let’s watch TV instead.”

Here are my top 5 picks for cheap and local family fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
Grade Level Chess Championships
While other kids are playing in the park, your child is studying maneuvers. While other kids are watching Sponge Bob, your child is watching Searching for Bobby Fischer, again.
Yep, you have a Chess Player in the family, and there is an event just for them-the Chess Championships at the Santa Clarita Library.
This coming Saturday, May 30th, grade levels are matched at times between 10 am and 5 pm at the Santa Clarita Library. Visit the California Youth Chess league website to register for the free event.
Let your child unleash their inner Fischer with others chess lovers. Free the FISCHER!!!
Remo Kids Rhythm Club
Loud singing, drums, and musical fun is all great for kids, and even greater for you if it isn’t in your living room. There’s a perfect outlet for your kids this and every Saturday, the Remo Kids Rhythm Club at SCVI!
SCVI Charter School is hosting this weekly event starting at 9:30 am at SVCI on Halsey Canyon Road. Kids are free and adults are only $5 and your family can play drums, sing, and create with the whole family. Visit their website for details.
So much fun! Plus it’s guaranteed they will be considerably quieter the rest of the day.
Battle of the Bands College of the Canyons
You may have kids, but that doesn’t mean you are only allowed to rock out to the uptempo songs in Frozen, right?
This Sunday, May 31st, you and your kids can rock out properly at the Battle of the Bands at the College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus.
The free event is from noon to 5 pm and will have food, a car show, a supervised children’s activity center, and – of course – crazy amazing bands!
Visit their website for details.
Never give up on the real music, parents, NEVER GIVE UP!!

Been wanting to take the family to Castaic Lake for swimming and relaxing? Well now you can, because the Lower Lake swim beach is open and ready for business.
The popular and kid friendly beach is open from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and you can find out all of the info on their website.
After being closed last year, this is great news for all you lake lovers. Enjoy!
